Overview

In line with the developments taking place worldwide in public administration, an increasing number of managers are working in commercialised, marketised or fully privatised organisations. Their operations are financed wholly or partly by revenue generated from charges – “sales” – to users/consumers. They may be required to operate to achieve defined profit targets or other financial cost recovery targets. While some of the generic management skills required mirror those in other public sector roles, there are also clear and stark differences in managing this kind of “business”. This course seeks to equip managers with the core, strategic level skills required in bodies of this kind. It is aimed at managers transferring to a more commercially based organisation and at managers in organisations that are being required to operate more commercially.
