ELTHAM and its surrounding areas are strong evidence of Britains's rich naval history. World famous landmarks such as Eltham Palace, a favourite site of English monarchs, and the Observatory at Greenwich, the original home of Greenwich Mean Time, are easily accessed. As well as notable buildings, there are famous ships, such as the Cutty Sark, museums and even the renown Millennium Dome and the architectural wonder of the Thames Barrier, a new addition built in 1974. If history is your particular interest, you could easily take a train to Dartford, Rochester, Chatham, Hastings, Brighton and Portsmouth to name a few.
For those of you interested in shopping, ELTHAM is a bus ride away from super purpose-built shopping complexes such as Bluewater and Lakeside. If a little culture is what you seek, there are all the theatres of Dartford, Bromley and Sevenoaks.
Are you the sporting type? How about golf? There are at least 5 public golf courses surrounding ELTHAM. What about football? Charlton football stadium is located in the same Greenwich Borough as Eltham. Arsenal’s and Chelsea's football grounds are just on the other side of London. Crystal Palace football club is close to Croydon. Maybe you are more into swimming; if so, there are many places for you to indulge. Most areas have leisure complexes and some, for example Crystal Palace, have Olympic-size swimming pools.
